The 16 and Pregnant reality series star, Catelynn Baltierra, formally Catelynn Lowell, had a lot to let off her chest in the reunion episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. She was candid about her past trauma as a child and showed support to her husband, Tyler Baltierra, too.
Catelynn Lowell had her first appearance on reality screens at a very young age after getting pregnant at 17. She then featured on the reality series 16 and Pregnant.
Her journey was documented in the series spinoffs like Teen Mom, Mom OG, And Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. On the reunion episode, Catelynn opened up to hosts Drew and Nessa about an incident that happened when she was around 8 years old.
She opened up for the first time as a victim and survivor of child sexual abuse at a young age. She did not name the perpetrator or give more information on the awful incident. This was her way of showing support to her husband and the father of her three daughters. The couple has been together since middle school and share three daughters: Rya Rose, Vaeda Luma, and Novalee Reign.
In their teenage years, the couple gave up their child, Carolyn Elizabeth Davis, for adoption. They were 17 at the time. The host asked how her family took the news when she decided to open up. She said her family didn’t receive it well especially her mom whom they have had a strained relationship for a long time.
According to Catelynn, her mom disregarded her confession by saying she sounded dumb and later called her “wasted” on the phone. Her strained relationship with her mom was also documented in previous spinoffs of the reality series. Catelynn Lowell’s mom got a tattoo of the word toxic because Catelynn calls her toxic.
Her husband Tyler was also a victim of sexual abuse as a child and he admitted it contributed to his hypersexuality. He was open to admitting he had suicidal and dark thoughts that made him almost give up.
Tyler believes Catelynn is his savior and is working on himself to be the father he never had. After intense therapy during the season, they lifted the heavy news and went public with the stories.
They share a similar story but this doesn’t stop them from trying to be good parents to their children. Together they are strong and they keep each other safe and steady through their childhood abuses.
