Charles Larkey’s early life was primarily based in New Jersey. He schooled in Governor Livingston High School.

Carole King first met Larkey in the band, The Myddle Class. At the time, she was married to Gerry Goffin, a famous American Lyrist. In 1965, Carole King and Gerry Goffin signed The Myddle Class into their label, Tomorrow Records.
In the waning days of 1967, the Fugs band welcomed Charles Larkey.
Sadly, around 1968, Gerald Goffin and Carole divorced, leaving Carole with two daughters, Louise and Sherry Goffin. After the divorce, she relocated to Laurel Canyon, situated in Los Angeles. There, she built a band called The City.
Carole brought in Larkey as the bass guitarist and Danny Kortchmar as a vocalist and guitarist. She played the role of a pianist and vocalist. In 1968, the group released an album, Now That Everything’s Been Said. However, it was commercially unsuccessful.
In 1969, The City broke up, and everyone joined different bands or pursued other careers. Later, in 1970, Carole King and Charles Larkey got married. Larkey kept working with Carole, helping her release several charming albums.
